The organisers of the brand-new London Produce Show and Conference have kindly invited six youths from the South African citrus industry to attend the show at their cost. The show is being held from 4 to 6 June at the Grosvenor House hotel in the heart of London. Presented by the Fresh Produce Consortium with Produce Business magazine, the show is a sister event of the New York Produce Show.
The Citrus Academy was given the opportunity to select the young people who will be sponsored. The six participants were selected from current and past Bursary Fund beneficiaries, focusing on students who have a keen interest in the business and marketing sides of the industry.
The event starts in the evening of the 4th of June with an opening reception. On the 5th is the student programme, along with seminars, workshops, chef demonstrations, media program and the trade show. Students will participate in a special workshop and mentors to guide them on the show floor. On the 6th of June, the students will have a choice of tours to take part in, including tours to the Wholesale Market, the port, an apple farm, a tour of retail stores, a foodservice distributor, etc.
This is a great opportunity for students to experience a whole other side of the fresh produce business, to learn about what makes the business of fruit production tick, to network with industry leaders, and to experience one of the great cities of the great cities of the world.
Be sure to keep an eye out for news and photos of the event after their return.
